LikeBright is an online dating site that connects you with friends of friends, hopefully turning awkward online dating into a safe, natural experience. You can even vouch for your friends to help them get noticed.
The Seattle startup launched out of TechStars Seattle at the end of last year. Below, founder and CEO Nick Soman talks about the labor of love behind LikeBright.
Tech Cocktail: What was the inspiration behind LikeBright?
Nick Soman: I met my fiance Anna through a mutual friend at a house party, and that was comfortable and fun in all the ways online dating isn’t. If we get LikeBright right we can improve the love lives of billions of people around the world. And every day I get to work with amazing people like my CTO Rich Luck and investors and advisors including Dr. Galen Buckwalter (Former Chief Scientist at eHarmony), Shane Mac from Zaarly, and Lance Tokuda from RockYou and SchoolFeed.
Tech Cocktail: Describe a challenging moment for LikeBright. How did you deal with it?
Soman: We were on NPR recently and the resulting traffic shut our servers down. We popped a bottle of apple cider in the office to celebrate before getting heads down to fix the problem. Why start your own company if you can’t have fun?
Tech Cocktail: What’s one quirky fact about LikeBright?
Soman: We work under a disco ball. And a big sign that says “IN THE ABSENCE OF ORDERS, ATTACK.”
